Helping Patients in Scottsdale and Greater Phoenix, Arizona

One of the best ways to maintain flawless skin is through regular exfoliation. Skin is designed to sheds dead cells regularly, but it needs some help with the process. Washing with soap will not completely remove the layer of accumulated dead skin. While there are many beautification options for exfoliation, the latest trend that has taken the industry by storm is dermaplaning. If you’ve always wanted baby-smooth skin but have never been satisfied with results from other exfoliation procedures, a dermaplane treatment may be just right for you.

Dermaplaning: The New Way to Exfoliate

Dermaplaning is an exfoliation procedure that uses a sterile surgical scalpel to shave off dead skin cells from the uppermost skin layer. Along with dull skin, the scalpel also removes vellus hairs (peach fuzz). Since the topmost skin layer is scraped off, marks like acne scars and wrinkles are reduced significantly.

If you’ve ever watched a barber shave using a razor, you understand the idea of dermaplaning. The scalpel blade is held at an inclined angle and brushed gently along the surface of the skin. Many patients combine the procedure of dermaplaning with other skin treatments, since it increases product penetration to offer maximum benefits.

What to Expect from Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is non-invasive and requires no downtime afterwards. The procedure takes about half an hour to complete. First, the area to be treated is thoroughly cleaned. A special curved 10-inch scalpel is then run along the skin to exfoliate. It is used on areas around the chin, nose, forehead, neck, and cheeks.

The procedure is pain free and does not require administration of anesthesia. By the end of the procedure, peach fuzz and skin cells have been shaved off precisely and thoroughly, leaving the patient with radiant and clear skin.

Results are noticeable immediately. For long-lasting results, the treatment must be performed regularly. Since skin cells are continuously regenerated, they must be removed on a regular basis if you want to maintain clear skin.

Why Choose Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is an effective solution for superficial skin problems and dull skin. The procedure is suitable for all skin types and colors.

Along with having the advantage of smoothing away skin imperfections, the dermaplane treatment is the safest rejuvenation technique on the market. Since there are no injections or other chemical components applied to the skin, the procedure has a very low risk of complications. There may be slight redness soon after, which disappears. Follow-up care is also simple. In fact, follow-up care is no different from the regular skin care routine of cleansing and moisturizing.

One concern that most patients have is whether the shaved-off peach fuzz will grow back thicker. It is a myth that the shaved hair grows back thicker. Also, facial hair is not as thick as hair on the legs.
