Injectable Fillers

Dermal fillers are very effective in smoothing out wrinkles and facial lines and restoring volume to even out scars and other depressions in the skin. They can also be used to plump up thin lips and augment cheeks.

Dermal fillers are directly injected into the skin, enhancing volume in the area of application. A topical anesthetic may be necessary for patient comfort during the procedure, and treatment type is typically quite short. There are several popular types of dermal fillers available.

Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

Hyaluronic acid fillers are good for filling moderate and harsh wrinkles. These synthetic products provide very natural-looking results.

Hyaluronic acid fillers are made of a synthesized version of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body. Because of this, this type of filler has a smaller risk of causing allergic reactions.

Hyaluronic acid is a substance that attracts water molecules, plumping and hydrating the skin to make it healthier. When the body’s supply of hyaluronic acid is supplemented with a filler, the skin is able to become smoother and look more youthful.

Calcium Hydroxylapatite Fillers

Calcium hydroxylapatite fillers are more ideal for deeper folds and creases. Such fillers have low risk of allergic reaction and have rare side effects.

Calcium hydroxylapatite fillers are made of synthesized calcium hydroxylapatite, a substance that is found naturally in human bones. In fillers, it comes in the form of microspheres suspended in a gel solution. These microspheres form a framework in the skin tissues, providing definition and volume. New collagen and elastin protein grows within this framework.

Collagen Stimulators

Collagen stimulators are not considered true fillers, because they work differently from most filler injections. They are known as stimulators because, instead of producing immediate results like synthetic fillers, they work by stimulating natural collagen production in the body over time.

Collagen stimulators contain poly-L-lactic acid and are semi-permanent, non-toxic, and biodegradable. They last longer than many other fillers, showing results for up to two years.

No Recovery Time Needed

Because fillers are completely non-surgical and only minimally invasive, there are no scalpels, incisions, or instances of tissue removal. This means that they will not require any sort of recovery time, and regular activities can be resumed immediately after a dermal filler procedure.

However, more rigorous activities should be resumed only after at least two days. There may be some swelling and bruising in the injection area, which can be soothed with the help of cold compress or ice packs. Avoiding heavy sun exposure for a time is also recommended, as the tissues will be recovering from the needle injections.

The results of your filler treatment will depend on the type of filler and your body’s reaction to it. Wrinkles eventually return as the filler wears off, and patients can return for follow-up treatments to keep their results looking fresh and youthful.
