Botox

The wrinkles we see in our skin may be embarrassing, but they don’t have to be permanent. With Botox injections, we’re able to reduce and eliminate a number of fine lines, leaving you with clear and youthful skin.

Botox works well on frown lines, forehead furrows, the sides of the chin, crow’s feet, and more. It is also used to relax harsh vertical neck bands.

Botox injections use botulinum toxin, produced by a microbe which causes botulism. Since it’s a purified form of botulinum toxin A, it does not cause any risk of botulism when used properly. It’s a safe FDA-approved procedure that has become incredibly popular.

Botox and Its Effects on Wrinkles

Botox treats facial wrinkles that aren’t yet deep set. Wrinkles set and deepen when skin and muscles contract. This happens as a result of repeated muscle activities like chewing and forming the same expressions on a daily basis.

Botox temporarily paralyzes muscle activity in the area where it is injected, relaxing the facial muscles. This allows the skin to be flat and smooth again, and it can also lessen the chance of formation of future wrinkles.

Botox Effects

The Procedure

Getting Botox injected is a very simple procedure. No anesthetic is usually required, and patients feel only minor discomfort after the Botox is injected with a fine needle into the muscles of the targeted area.

The effects of Botox can be seen after three to seven days. You will be able to return to your normal activities immediately after getting injected, though vigorous activity should generally be avoided for at least a day after the injection.

Points to Remember

  • Do not consume alcohol at least one week before getting injected.
  • Aspirin and other anti-inflammatory drugs should be avoided at least two weeks before the procedure to decrease chances of bruising.
  • Avoid lying down for at least four hours after the procedure in order to prevent the Botox from migrating to unintended areas.
  • The results last up to three to four months from the date of injection.
  • If you are breastfeeding, pregnant, or planning to be pregnant, or if you suffer from neurological diseases, you will not be eligible for Botox.
  • After the procedure, you might experience a minor degree of temporary bruising and pain in the injected area, along with a headache.
  • Insisting on a completely wrinkle-free face can lead to an unnatural appearance. Talk to the doctor and try and go for a natural look so that Botox remains your little secret.
  • Before the injection process, inform your doctor of any medicine that you’re taking, even if they are natural supplements. If any of these contain blood thinners, you could get severe bruising after the procedure.
  • While Botox injection is a relatively simple process, if it isn’t injected properly or with the right dose, it could have a life-threatening effect. That is why you must go to a qualified medical professional for treatment.
  • Call immediately if you experience muscle weakness, vision issues, trouble swallowing, speaking or breathing, or bladder issues after getting injected.
