Breast Lift

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgery that works to reduce sagging of the breasts and restore youthful contours to the breast. Your breasts can be raised, excess skin removed, and surrounding tissue tightened to make your breasts look more youthful.

The breast lift is an incredibly popular procedure. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the number of people choosing breast lift surgery has grown almost seventy percent since the year 2000.

Causes of Drooping Breasts

There are many conditions that can lead to the drooping of breasts, the primary one among them being the aging process. Heredity, genetics, and even pregnancy can be other determinants that lead to the sagging of breasts.

There are various physical issues that can stem from age and relate to the breasts. The shape and size of the breasts change as a person grows, with factors such as weight playing a role in how the breasts appear. An individual who has lost a lot of weight, for example, may find excess skin around their breasts. In addition, their breasts may appear to droop.

Similarly, pregnant women may see a change in the way their breasts appear. Some conditions that can lead to drooping of breasts include pregnancy, breastfeeding, heredity, age, weight fluctuations, and even gravity.

It is important to note that a breast lift does not alter the actual volume of the breasts but simply reverses drooping. To increase the volume of the breasts, you need to undergo breast augmentation surgery.

Breast augmentation can be done alongside a mastopexy if you are interested in simultaneously increasing the volume and perkiness of your breasts. This procedure is known as augmentation mastopexy, or a breast lift with implants.

Is a Breast Lift Right for Me?

Is a Breast Lift Right for Me?

Not everyone is suited to this surgery, and any underlying health conditions and previous surgeries need to be appropriately discussed with our surgeons. You must be committed to a healthy lifestyle and be a non-smoker. Drugs and alcohol are also not recommended before surgery.

If you are planning to lose weight significantly or planning to get pregnant, then it’s best to wait until you have completed that before undergoing the procedure. These life experiences can massively alter the shape of your breasts.

The Breast Lift Procedure

You will be administered with general anesthesia before the procedure takes place. Incisions will then be created. The type and location of these incisions will depend on the amount of lift you are looking to achieve and the amount of excess tissue to be removed.

For a minor to moderate amount of lift, the donut incision is created. This comes in the form of two concentric circles around the areola. For greater lift, a lollipop incision is made. This features an incision around the areola and a line leading down from it to the breast fold. This features a circle around the areola, a line down to the breast fold, and a curved horizontal incision across the fold.

Once the incision has been created, our surgeons are able to remove excess tissue as needed, reshaping the breasts and tightening the skin. The areolae may be resized or repositioned in order to better fit the new contours of the breasts.

Recovery and Healing

Follow our surgeons post-surgical care instructions as closely as possible during your recovery process. If you do this, you will be lessening the risk of any complications and will be increasing the chances of a speedier and more comfortable recovery.

You will need to take time off of work, typically around a week or two, while you’re recovering from your breast lift surgery. You will also need to avoid physically taxing activities for several weeks.

It may take a few months for you to properly notice the effects of the surgery as your breasts continue to settle. Once they have, you will be able to enjoy your perkier breasts.
