Following administration of anesthesia to help the patient feel comfortable, the surgeon will create incisions. These incisions can be made in areas like the breast fold (inframammary), around the areola (periareolar), and in the armpit (transaxillary). The choice of incision location will be up to you and your surgeon and will be discussed during a consultation.
Once the incisions have been created, a pocket will be made in the tissue. The implant will then be inserted. Breast implants can either be filled with silicone gel or a saline solution. They can be round or teardrop-shaped, and they can be textured or smooth. These details will also be worked out during the breast augmentation consultation.
After correct positioning of the implants, the incisions will be sealed with the help of surgical sutures.
