Helping Patients in Scottsdale and Greater Phoenix, Arizona

For most of us, being in shape and happy with our figure is a dream. We typically envision our perfect body as one that is fit and toned and has no unsightly fat bulges. In order to achieve this body, we spend plenty of time and money on exercising, going to the gym, eating healthy, and trying out new diets. For some people, the results of these activities are almost immediate. For others, the results take time and appear gradually.

Unfortunately, many people out there try these solutions out but can’t manage to get any results. Even after all that effort, the excess fat just won’t disappear and seems to be as stubborn as ever. This can affect confidence and lower self-esteem.

Fortunately, cosmetic surgery has an answer to your problems. You can get rid of stubborn fat from specific areas of your body through a procedure called liposuction.

What Is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure in which stubborn fat cells are removed from targeted areas in the body through a process of medical suction. Men or women above 18 years of age who are in relatively good health are good candidates for liposuction.

Liposuction can be used to remove fat cells from numerous areas of the body, including the abdomen, thighs, hips, back, chest, and arms. As the fat cells are removed, the body is contoured to look more toned and sculpted.

Preparing for Liposuction

Liposuction should be performed only under the guidance of a certified medical professional with expertise in this particular branch of surgery. It is important to discuss the liposuction procedure and the techniques that will be used with your surgeon during a thorough consultation.

no smoking

Speaking with your surgeon before your procedure will help you develop a good idea of your end results. It will also help your surgeon better understand your aesthetic goals. Make sure to give a detailed report of your medical history to your surgeon to help them minimize the chances of any complications that could occur during the course of the surgery.

You will be required to refrain from smoking and taking painkillers such as ibuprofen or aspirin before the procedure, as these are essentially anti-coagulants and can cause complications during and after the surgery.

The Liposuction Procedure

You will be given general or local anesthesia depending upon your choice and certain other factors. The surgeon will then mark the areas where the fat cells will be removed from. Once this is done, incisions are made along the markings.

A cannula (a thin tube with a sharp end) is inserted through these insertions and then moved back and forth to loosen the fat cells. The loosened fat cells are extracted through the cannula using medical suction.

Recovery and Aftercare

Liposuction involves removing a large number of fat cells from the body at once. During the recovery period, it is advisable to refrain from activities that involve physical exertion, including sports and your exercise regimen.

The results of the surgery are visible once the body starts recovering. These results can be maintained for a long time, provided you maintain a healthy lifestyle with a proper diet and healthcare routine.
